Yes, part of the water rinses the membrane and goes down the drain — that's inherent to the process. In practice it amounts to a few litres a day for household use, about two or three toilet flushes. In exchange, you stop buying bottled water, whose production consumes far more water than that reject stream.

The membrane retains the vast majority of bacteria, but a reverse osmosis system is not a certified disinfection barrier. If your well shows coliforms or confirmed bacteriological contamination, you need disinfection — a UV steriliser, for instance — in addition to reverse osmosis. The water test determines this, and we'll tell you plainly.

No. The system is installed at the point of use, under the kitchen sink: it treats the water you drink and cook with, not the water heater, shower or dishwasher. For limescale throughout the home you need a water softener installed at the main inlet. The two devices answer different needs and complement each other.

Reverse osmosis does remove minerals along with contaminants. That's exactly why the system includes an alkaline remineralization stage that reintroduces calcium and magnesium and restores a balanced pH. The water coming out of the tap is therefore not demineralized water.
